27.07.2010   Press Conference: “Two MAI employees have been retained for acts of corruption”

CCECC officers, Territorial Directorate “North”, have retained on Friday, July 23rd, three employees of the Soldanesti District Police Commissariat. It’s about an operative assistant and two inspectors of the Crime Police Department, all of them being accused of passive corruption. According to the declaration, the people of law were asked 1000 Euro in order not to start a criminal investigation against him. The extortion initiator was the Deputy Commissioner himself. According to the statements made by the informer, the policeman would be written on a sheet of paper the contact details of one of the policemen who was to lead "negotiations" across the transmission of the extorted money.

  
The retention in the act took place in Soldanesti on 23rd of July at 17.00 p.m. During the operation one of the inspectors of the Criminal Police resisted the Anticorruption officers and the workers of the Operative Intervention Section were forced to make a warning shot and to apply force.
Against policemen had already been submitted charges. During the day the judge would explain the preventive measures. It should be mentioned that in this case, the prosecutors will ask an arrest for a period of up to 30 days.

  
Currently, the CCECC is investigating this case under Art. 324, Penal Code of Moldova. If they are found guilty of passive corruption the accused policemen may be imprisoned for 5 -10 years with a fine up to 60,000 lei and deprivation of certain activities for a period from 2 to 5 years. From the beginning of the year, CCECC started 26 criminal cases related to acts of corruption involving over 20 police officers. Most of the cases have been sent to court.
